Atkinson Pryce in Biggar on the A702 thirty miles south of Edinburgh is a gem of an independent bookshop. It's easy to drive past but don't! Last Thursday they were celebrating their expansion into a second room, with the help of this amazing book-cake (it tasted good too). I was writer in residence for three years in Biggar at Brownsbank Cottage, last home to Hugh MacDiarmid and Valda Trevlyn Grieve and got to know this bookshop and its creative ways of encouraging reading and opening a door to great books in a small town. Congratulations to them on their new chapter!
